Leckey Nature Reserve

Molly Leckey established this Conservation Easement in memory of her late husband Dr. Robert G. (Bud) Leckey, whose wish was to work with the Ontario Land Trust Alliance to arrange such an easement. The Leckeys bought the property in 1962 and spent 40 years repairing land that had been damaged by over-grazing; they planted trees and developed trails. The easement land includes rolling hills, wetlands, woodlands and a drumlin on the eastern tip of the Oak Ridges Moraine.

ECOLOGICAL GIFT NUMBER

Molly Leckey dedicated this Conservation Easement to her late husband Bud. It is 177 acres of wooded valleys and drumlins situated on the Oak Ridges Moraine. With a conservation easement the environmental values are protected by the easement which is registered on title to the land. Even if the Nature Reserve is sold the conservation easement remains and the new owners and the Northumberland Land Trust are obliged to respect the conservation easement. In this case the land has been sold and the new owners farms the acres not under the conservation agreement and have access to the Nature Reserve as described in the terms of the conservation agreement. There is a memorial bench and tree on this Nature Reserve to recognize the contribution of the late Molly and Bud Leckey.

There is no general public access to the Leckey Nature Reserve. For more information, please contact info@nltrust.ca
