HISTORY We now have another 52 acres under preservation on the Oak Ridges Moraine, adjacent to Peter’s Woods Provincial Park. This property, in the Municipality of Alnwick/Haldimand, lies within the “Natural Core Area” of the Oak Ridges Moraine Plan and almost entirely within the Lower Trent Conservation Authority. The property includes wetlands and a watercourse which are shared with PWPP and form a tributary to the headwater of the Burnley Creek, thus creating a natural corridor between the two.

ECOLOGICAL GIFT NUMBER  

This 52-acre acquisition by the Northumberland Land Trust resulted from a split-receipt transaction completed in January 2009 with Dr. David and Mrs. Molly Pelton. A split-receipt transaction occurs when a portion of the Nature Reserve is donated, and a portion is purchased in fee simple.

The Pelton Nature Reserve is next door to Peter’s Woods Provincial Park in the Municipality of Alnwick/Haldimand. It lies within the “Natural Core Area” of the Oak Ridges Moraine Plan and almost entirely within the Lower Trent Conservation Authority area. The Nature Reserve includes wetlands and a watercourse which are shared with Peter’s Woods Provincial Park and form a tributary to the headwater of Burnley Creek, thus creating a natural corridor between the two. The Northumberland Land Trust gratefully acknowledges the support of the Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation in the acquisition of this Nature Reserve.
